"When I was making the switch to State Farm, the customer service experience was completely different from what I’ve encountered now. They lowered my original premium a bit and made the transition smooth and easy, which gave me confidence in my decision. But now that I actually need support, it’s a completely different story. The lack of transparency, poor communication, and overall confusion have made this a deeply frustrating experience. I’m very disappointed and will be switching back. Less than a year later, that initial sense of trust has completely unraveled. State Farm technically allows you to take your car to any shop for repairs—but what they don’t make clear is that they won’t honor the co-pay agreement unless they use aftermarket parts instead of original branded ones, unless you’re willing to pay the difference out of pocket for OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts. The purpose of insurance is to restore your vehicle to the condition it was in before the incident—not downgrade it. If you insured diamond earrings and they broke, you wouldn’t expect to get cubic zirconia in return. The same principle should apply here: **insurance should replace what you had with equal quality**, not something cheaper. Customer service has been awful. I’ve spent over **two hours on hold** just trying to speak to someone. Multiple representatives gave me conflicting information—some telling me to go to a shop for an estimate that ended up being incorrect. As for my local agent, I expected better communication and support. When I first tried to file a claim after hours, I sent a detailed email explaining the situation. All I got back was a short reply asking when she could call me. No acknowledgment of the issue, no follow-up, even after it was clear I was frustrated. When we finally connected a week later—only because I called—her response was that she doesn’t like to “play phone tag” because she’s very busy. That’s understandable to an extent, but there should have been a better system in place—like having a staff member reach out to coordinate. Not just: well, she didn’t reply to my email, she’s on her own. To make matters worse, when I finally explained the situation, **a new claim was started**, which caused confusion and disrupted the help I was already getting from the dealership. I only found out because the shop contacted me about the duplicate claim. Now, I’m back to waiting on hold for hours to try and fix it. And when I tried to contact the agent again at **9:20 a.m. on a Friday**, I got no answer. I texted, and was told the office was closed—only to be told later that their “system wasn’t working.” So which is it?— Still on hold..."
"Hi Maryorie. I completely understand why you are frustrated. Yes, our systems were down for several hours this morning - which impeded our ability to update our out of office message with texting. We are as frustrated with the system outage as you are. When you emailed my, I promptly emailed you back, asking to set a time to talk. Instead of responding, you waited a week, then called the office. I'm not sure what to do with that. I simple response with a time to connect would have facilitated this. When we did speak yesterday, we talked about all this. While it isn't your issue - our system wasn't showing a claim being open (we have a new system for this, so I think there are some kinks to work out). I called to get one started, and in the middle of that, realized that there was a claim opened. My claims partner said she would void the 2nd claim. Clearly that didn't happen. I totally understand that you are unhappy with this situation. Once we connected on the issue, we have been working hard on resolving this - including two emails to you prior to opening - with updates. We are working on getting this resolved. Please give us a chance to do that."
